If you are sick of ugly beige cases that hide your beautiful projects, Ian from Dangerous Prototypes may have the right solution! 😉
With Sick_of_Beige project, DP with the help of David Moberly reached two goals:
[checklist]
- define standard sizes for its PCBs;
- design PCB cases that are compatible with those sizes.
[/checklist]
PCB
PCB sizes are defined to fit the free version of Eagle and the various inexpensive PCB services (like FusionPCB from SeeedsStudio). Standard sizes are available for rectangular PCB (using the golden ratio to determine the short size) as for square ones:
On DP’s wiki you can download all the templates for CadSoft Eagle:
Cases
On DP’s wiki you can find a list of compatible cases. DP designed an “open” case, made by laser cut using clean plexiglass:
This case, at the moment only for 60x37mm size, is available from SeeedsStudio.
Ian wrote also a great tutorial about how to customize – using Google SketchUp – the case above to fit your projects:
It’s a very interesting idea, I’m going to use it for sure in my next projects!
Here’s a video with Ian describing the project:
Bellissima iniziativa, quando progetterò i miei PCB me ne ricorderò
oops I meant *SeeedStudio, lol. feel free to delete both comments anyhow. 🙂
