I started the Quick and Cheap Quadricopter (QC250) project after having taken up a friend’s challenge: build a quadcopter with less than 100 euros (excluding the radio).
I decided to build a 250 class (25cm is the distance between two opposite motors) quadcopter. It’s a middle size, perfect both for acrobatic flies and for carrying small cameras for aereal shots and/or FPV.
I’ll post some video tutorials that will show, step by step, how to build the multicopter… here’s the first one, with the introduction:
Required components
I chose to buy everything from one webshop (Banggood) that also offers free shipping. The required components are:
[checklist]
- Diatone DIY FPV250 frame (link)
- 4 DYS BE1806 motors (link)
- 4 RCX SimonK 10A ESCs (link)
- an OpenPilot CC3D flight control board (link)
- its power distribution board (link)
- a ZOP Power 11.1V 1500mA battery (link)
- an XT60 male connector with wires (link)
- a velcro strip (link)
- a battery charge monitor (link)
[/checklist]
In addiction to what is listed above, you’ll also need:
[checklist]
- some spacers (link)
- some plastic zip ties (link)
- a led strip – optional (link)
- a radio with at least 5 channels (I used my Turnigy 9x)
- screw drivers, soldering iron, solder, scissors or a cutter…
[/checklist]
Ready to go? In the next days I’ll post the video tutorials with all the instruction to build our QC250!
Total cost is about 79.33 dollar. That is without the radio. Aren’t there cheaper options that have the radio included?
Hi! Of course there are several RTF (ready-to-fly) products that cost less and also include the radio… but the goal was to build a quadcopter “from sketch” 😉
Hi!
Thank you for a great build. Can you tell me where you purchased your propellers?
Hi Mike, from Banggood.
Ciao Luca,
